St Philip's service to honour fallen police officers

The annual Cheshire Constabulary Memorial Service will take place at St Philip and St James Church this weekend.

The service will be led by Rev Jane Parry who is an Associated Police Chaplain to the Cheshire Constabulary.

Rev Parry said "Bereaved families and colleagues who have lost relatives and friends in the line of duty are invited to the service where their loved ones will be remembered and honoured."

This year's service will be particularly poignant because of the recent tragedy in Mottram, when two unarmed female police officers, PC Nicola Hughes and PC Fiona Bone, were killed in a gun and grenade attack.

The service will be attended by the Chief Constable David Watton, Deputy Chief Constable Helen King, Asst Chief Constable Janette McCormick and representatives of various ranks of the Cheshire Police Force and support staff.

PCSO Jim Newns who will be giving a Bible reading and dignitaries from the various councils will attend along with the candidates for the new post of Cheshire Police and Crime Comissioner: Ainsley Arnold, John Dwer, Sarah Flannery and John Stockton.

The service, accompanied by the Cheshire Police Band and church organist, will take place at 3pm on Sunday, 14th October.
