Firefighters were called to a large branch which had fallen onto live power cables in Merrymans Lane, Great Warford on Saturday, 23rd June.
The incident happened just after 3.30pm and involved a branch which had fallen across the highway, snaring the high voltage electric lines as it fell. The main part of the branch was left hanging precariously on the power cable.
On arrival firefighters cordoned off the road, for safety reasons, and the electricity supplier was requested along with Police and local authorities who were required to remove the debris from the highway.
Watch Manager Peter Lloyd who attended the incident said: "The crew were faced with a large branch which has snapped off a tree, blocking both sides of the highway.
"The road was cordoned off to traffic and pedestrians in both directions, for safety, as the branch was hanging from the power cable."
Homes in the surrounding area went without power after the safety circuit breaker activated on the power cable.
