A distraction burglary occurred at the home of a 91 year old female in the Stamford Road area of Alderley Edge at around 6pm yesterday, Tuesday 12th June.
The man knocked at her door claiming to be a representative from the Water Board, which no longer exists. He entered the house and distracted the elderly lady at the tap in her kitchen, whilst his accomplice searched through the property looking for valuables. He made an untidy search of her bedroom after forcing the bedroom door which was locked.
At this present time it is uncertain what, if anything, has been taken.
Would-be distraction burglars also targeted Holmes Chapel yesterday. Men purporting to be water board officials called at a home on Capesthorne Road, Holmes Chapel at around 12.15pm.
They asked for access to the house to check the water supply. Their demands were challenged by the homeowner and the men, who were dressed casually and spoke with Irish accents, could not provide identification and left the area on foot.
Police are establishing whether the two incidents are linked and are keen to speak to anyone who who may have seen any people or vehicles behaving suspiciously. Cheshire Police can be contacted on 101.
