Alderley Edge Community Primary School marked the Queen's Diamond Jubilee with one big celebration last week.

The festive occasion started with traditional party games on the school playing field before the children paraded from the field to take a seat at the school's very own street party.

Every child in the school, along with all the children from Alderley Edge Pre-School, had their own place at the street party. Before tucking in to their party food the children, along with all the helpers, stood and sang God Save the Queen which was played by Olivia French in Year 6.

Headteacher Mr Chris Perry said "The whole event was organised and led by Graham Tyson, parent governor, with parent Helen Fitchett. However, it couldn't have happened without the tremendous support and input from staff and parents who helped make this event so brilliant."

Earlier in the week the children had been presented with a commemorative keyring provided by the school's PTA and during the afternoon, as reported earlier this week, three Councillors, Mary Maczkowiak, Sue Joseph and Frank Keegan presented the children with a commemorative coin from the Parish Council.

Finally, as the street party came to the end - the children gave three cheers for the Queen on the 60 years of her reign and every child went home with an ice lolly provided by the pre-school.

Mr Chris Perry added "We could not let this occasion pass without celebrating it in style with a massive street party.

"The children thoroughly enjoyed playing traditional games on the school field before sitting down to enjoy their party food - the atmosphere was amazing.

"I would like to say a big thank you to all those parents and governors who worked so hard to make sure this event was a great success. I would also like to thank Chafes Solicitors for generously supporting this event too.

"I remember quite clearly celebrating the Queen's Silver Jubilee when I was at Primary School and I am sure the children will remember this street party for the rest of their lives too."
