Village pub is coming to No 15

Work has commenced this week on the refurbishment of No.15 London Road and we can exclusively reveal that it is going to be transformed into a 'proper village pub'.

Due to open in May 2012 The New World Pub Company, a division of Living Ventures, has decided to situate their second pub 'The Botanist', on the site of the fabled Number 15 Wine Bar, which closed its doors in March 2009 after 35 years.

The Knutsford-based operator behind Gusto and Grill on the Edge hope it will become as much of an institution as its illustrious predecessor.

Following the success of The Oast House in Spinningfields, which is based in a traditional looking, largely reclaimed building, this new take on the old will have the same ethos and values as its city centre counterpart.

Tim Bacon, Managing Director of Living Ventures said "The Oast House in Manchester has established a very strong following in a short space of time so I'm confident we will achieve the same with The Botanist and bring No 15 back to life."

In addition to a well-stocked cellar of cask-conditioned ales, around 50 bottled beers and ciders from around the world and a selection of the finest Champagnes, wines and spirits will be available.

This will be accompanied by a deli-style smokehouse menu with a rotisserie and external barbecue there will be room for al-fresco dining (whatever the weather) in the No 15 walled garden.

In December Living Ventures secured £4 million in fresh financial backing from Lloyds Bank Corporate Markets, enabling them to continue a programme of refurbishment works as well as open new restaurants.

In the past year they have opened four new outlets in Manchester's Spinningfields - The Alchemist, Australasia, The Oast House and more recently a deli/cafe called Peppermint Bay.

Great idea. The Oasthouse is a good bar. I seem to remember that the planning due to noise only allows the garden to be open until 10pm.

Looking forward to an excellent pint of real ale. How about some 'Wincle Waller' or a Tatton beer or the excellent 'Storm' brewery beer, Bosley Cloud, brewed in Macclesfield?

Good luck to Living Ventures, pleased to see a pub rather than another restaurant.

Proper village pub!! Going by that discription it doesn't sound like a proper village pub to me! And you can already get an excellent pint of real local ale in the union club that supplies the Storm Brewery bitters as well as other local breweries. No mention of darts, pool, dominoes, bowls, etc... now thats a proper pub! (All available in the union)

A proper village pub won't do a ploughmans lunch for £9.50, should be £5 ! The Oast House charges £9.50.

Remind me....what IS a village pub? I certainly hope they support the excellent local breweries though. Worth a visit if they do.

Looking forward to the opening of yet another successful venture by this company. Wish they had taken over the where the Loch Fyne restaurant on Brook Lane is sited. I'm sure they would have created a restaurant/pub that made a profit and people returned to.
Australasia in Spinningfields is a fab restuarant - just wish it wasn't so far away!
