Macclesfield Road closed after bedroom fire

Macclesfield Road was closed to traffic in both directions, north of Woodbrook Road, earlier today following a house fire.

One fire engine from Wilmslow and one from Macclesfield were called to Edgecroft at 11.17am where they discovered a small fire in a rear bedroom of the property.

Fire crews wearing full breathing aparatus used one hose reel to extinguish the fire and positive pressure ventilation to clear the house of smoke.

Phil Kiljour, Station Manager at Stockton Heath, said "The fire was contained within the bedroom but substantial smoke damage has been caused to the rest of the house.

"The cause of the fire is unclear. We have a Specialist Fire Investigating Officer currently on route.

"One female occupant has been transferred to Wythenshawe Hospital for precautionary checks for smoke inhalation. Nobody else has been hurt."

Update: This article was updated to reflect that the road had since reopened.

Clearly, an awful event for the family and owners. Glad that no one appears to be seriously injured. But, and hence my comment, why is the official summary from Station Manager, Stockton Heath, Warrington? Great that fire crews attend a fire, irrespective of boundary, but I hope Phil Kiljour is merely a PR guy co-ordinating statements to the press and not a front-line fire-fighter covering Alderley Edge.

Mike
Phil Kiljour is the Station Manager at Stockton Heath. He wasn't a PR guy co-ordinating statements to the press, he was covering this area on Sunday (I didn't ask why) and was in charge of the incident, as such he is the person who came and spoke to me when I went up there on Sunday morning.

I haven't had a lot of experience of covering fires, and I certainly hope not to, but from my experience to date it is usually one of the people in charge at the scene who speaks with the press.

Thanks Lisa
Glad Phil was just local.
I was more concerned that, if my home was on fire, Stockton Heath shouldn't be Gold Command in sorting out my fire, and as living in a semi, my neighbours also.
Hope local services are in plave.
