Pupils get a history lesson from firefighters

Firefighters visited Alderley Edge Community Primary School to help the children understand all about the Great Fire of London.

Year 2 children had a real treat as Delta Watch from Wilmslow Fire Station came to visit and brought their fire engine along too.

The visit was organised by class teacher Mrs Bowker to consolidate the children's learning this term, which has been all about fire. Firefighter Usman Akhtar led a discussion with the children all about the Great Fire of London and was impressed with their knowledge and understanding of the topic.

Afterwards the children were very excited to be able to get close up to the fire engine as the Watch showed the children the equipment they use, some of which is very similar to what was used in 1666.

Mrs Bowker said "The children have been so engaged in this term's topic learning all about the Great Fire of London, The Bakery of Pudding Lane and The Diary of Samuel Pepys to name but a few. They have also built some amazing Tudor Houses which are now displayed all round our classroom. The visit from the firefighters really was a wonderful way to bring the topic to a close."
