Inspector Sue Mills has been appointed as the new Neighbourhood Policing Unit Inspector for the Wilmslow area. She takes over from Inspector Matt Welsted, and was previously Crewe Central Services Inspector.
Inspector Mills joined the police force in 1987 and has a wealth of policing experience. She has worked in a variety of roles including CID, neighbourhood policing in the Macclesfield and has worked out of most police stations in south Cheshire. Sue also took a brief period out from policing and spent 5 years as a primary school teacher.
Inspector Mills' role is to lead the team which includes 4 sergeants, 22 police officers, 6 PCSOs and 23 specials who cover the Wilmslow and Alderley Edge area.
She works full shifts and spends 40% of her time covering the Duty Officer role which means she manages all the critical and serious incidents in the Eastern Basic Command Unit which covers Nantwich, Crewe, Congleton, Macclesfield, Knutsford and Wilmslow.
Inspector Mills told me "I am passionate about neighbourhood policing and think it's the way of the future.
"I want to make sure my staff are visible, that we are effective, efficient, respond to the incidents in a timely fashion and are value for money. I also aim to utilise my specials to the best of my ability so the officers can focus on what matters to the people in the area.
"Ultimately we are trying to solve the root cause, when we go to incidents we are working with our partners to try and solve the root cause."
