Police are appealing for residents to be extra vigilant following recent thefts of York Stone from driveways in Alderley Edge.
Thieves have dug up two driveways in recent weeks removing substantial amounts of expensive slabs.
The first incident occurred at a Brook Lane cottage, between 10pm on October 15th and 4.40pm on October 19th, when slabs were removed from round the outside of the property.
Over the weekend a second incident occurred at a property being renovated on Trafford Road where 10m2 of York Stone was stolen from the rear garden.
There latest incidents follow recent thefts on Macclefield Road, Alderley Edge as well as in Prestbury and Macclesfield.
Police suspect that the thieves are brazenly digging up the driveways in the middle of the day when passers by think they are legitimate.
Sergeant Andy Miller said "These thieves do their homework, they probably go round knocking on doors beforehand under false pretences.
"We want people to be vigilant. If you see York Stone being removed then please let us know. It's very expensive to replace so we'd prefer people to contact us if they see anything suspicious, even if it turns out to be a waste of time.
"We have over 20 incidents a couple of years ago and I would hate to see this type of theft rear it's head again. The thieves spot places which are under renovation or construction and there are a lot of those in Alderley Edge."
