The Oxfam Bookshop is launching a new book club which will meet on a monthly basis in the London Road shop.

Katie Robb, Shop Manager, told me "We're going to have a few different events on in the near future. We know that our customers love the atmosphere of the shop, and we want to add to that by putting on events that we think the community will enjoy and value.

"There are a few book groups in the village, but we don't know of one that happens during the day, and we thought it would be perfect for people who have come into Alderley to do a bit of morning shopping or have just dropped the kids off at school."

The first book to be chosen is 'The Visible World' by Mark Slouka, because it has received great reviews, but in the future the books the group read will be chosen by the group itself.

Katie added "People can expect to come along and be made welcome. They don't need to be an expert, just enjoy reading and want to meet like-minded people. It's free to come along, and there will be tea and coffee available."

The group will meet on Wednesday, 12th October, at 10am. There is no need to register beforehand, just turn up on the day.

Other events planned at the book shop for this month include a Princess and Fairy party on Sunday 23rd at 2pm, where aspiring young princesses and fairies can dress up in their finery and come along for an afternoon of fun activities.

Activities will include face painting, demonstrations on how to draw your own princess and a prize for the best dressed partygoer. There will be a charge of £2 to cover the materials.

Then on Saturday 29th October, just in time for Halloween, Alderley Edge author Liz Horrocks will be reading and signing copies of her first two books.

Lots of local people will know Liz and may have read her first book, 'The Edge of Doom', which is set around Alderley. The second part of the trilogy, the 'Dark Space', has recently been published and this will be a chance for people to hear snippets of both and to get their copies signed. The time is yet to be confirmed but details will be available at the shop. soon.
