Waitrose have announced that they plan to open their new convenience store in Alderey Edge on Thursday 11th August.

Work is currently underway to create the 6,200 sq ft shop at The Parade, which will generate approximately 40 jobs.

Jon Arnold, Head of Convenience at Waitrose, said "We are delighted to have the opportunity to achieve a long-standing ambition to have a store in Alderley Edge.

"We are confident the investment we are making can play a positive role in the long term, not just through the creation of new jobs and supporting local projects, but also by attracting new shoppers to the village."

Waitrose will also be launching its Community Matters Initiative in Alderley Edge which will ensure that £500 is donated every month to local charities and projects.

The John Lewis-owned grocer opened a convenience store on Princess Street in Knutsford on June 9th. It is virtually the same size as the store they are opening in Alderley Edge and is surprisingly spacious with a broad range of products - presumably our new store will be similar.

Utter maddness! Three major supermarket outlets in a 50 yard radius. Do we live in a city centre? Another nail in the coffin of a traditional village.

Well, I am surprised at your comments Mr David Hatfield regarding this, you obviously supply the supermarkets more than you supply the independents. I agree that supermarkets have an important part to play and offer a convenient way to shop, however, villages and small towns are becoming saturated with them, pushing out independents who offer that personal service that is hard to find elsewhere. And with regard to queuing David, I must say I have queued more at a supermarket than I have at any independent.
