For the more energetic members of the community the Alderley Edge May Fair will start with a 5k race through the village.

Organised by the Running Bear, the race on Saturday May 21st will start on London Road at 11am and involve an accurately measured 3 lap course of the village. The first 2 laps will be along London Road, Ryleys Lane and Chorley Hall Lane with runners cutting down alongside the allotments and in to the park on the third lap - to finish near the bandstand.

Places are limited to 200 runners, with entries on the day if the race limit is not reached, and all proceeds from the event will go towards the Alderley Edge May Fair fund for next year.

Tony Hulme, from the Running Bear, said "We decided to organise the event to add a bit of atmosphere to the carnival and because the road is closed anyway it seemed like an obvious thing to do."

Entrance to the race is £5 for UKA affiliated runners and £7 for unattached runners.
