Alderley supports Children in Need

Alderley Edge Methodist Church was packed on Friday evening for their annual Children in Need concert.

The atmosphere was tremendous and the school choirs from Ashdene, Alderley Edge County Primary, Alderley Edge School for Girls, The Ryleys and Mottram St.Andrew Primary put on some super performances. A woodwind group from The Ryleys, Alderley District Scout Band, various solo singers, a pianist and a finale featuring The Ryleys Brass Ensemble made for a brilliant evening of music and song.

Judy Povey church secretary said "The Children In Need Vicars' Challenge was also taken up in Alderley Edge, when the Methodist Minister, Rev. Ben Clowes performed a Victoria Wood piece 'Smile Song', persuading his wife, Catherine, to share the stage with him.

"All in all we raised more in the buckets than last year, and have sent off £1318.20 to Children In Need."

The Alderley Edge branch of Britannia also supported Children in Need by spending the week visiting businesses in the village to request donations for their raffle.

Kate Shenton said "The response we had was brilliant and every one provided some excellent and generous items. On Friday we raised £216 and we will continue to sell raffle tickets until close of business on Thursday 25th November in order to raise as much money as possible.

"Out of all the Britannia branches in the area, the Alderley Edge branch managed the raise the most money for the charity and that was down to the help and support from other businesses in the village and the local residents.

"Britannia has been opened in the village for three years now and it is the first time we have been organised a charity event, following the success we had last week we will be organising similiar events in the future."
