Road traffic accident on Congleton Road

Police are appealing for witnesses to a serious collision that took place at around 10.50am today, Friday 13th November, on A34 Congleton Road, near to the junction with Whitebarn Road.

The collision involved a Silver VW Golf, driven by a 84 year old man from Nether Alderley, and a pedal cycle ridden by a 72 year old male from Dukinfield, Manchester. At the time of the collision both parties were travelling from the direction of Alderley Edge towards Nether Alderley village when the VW Golf collided with the pedal cyclist causing serious head injuries.

The pedal cyclist was taken to Macclesfield General Hospital by ambulance where he is currently being treated for his head injuries and a pre existing medical condition. His condition is described as serious but stable.

Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision, or who can offer any information that may assist the investigation, to contact Sergeant Ian Holley at Eastern Traffic Unit on 0845 458 0000.

Very sad to hear about this accident, especially on the day of the By-Pass opening and being a cyclist myself. I note from the above that the driver was a 84 year old man, I only wish their was a upper limit on driving of say 70.
I hope the cyclist recovers soon

If the upper limit was 70, then the cyclist shouldn't have been on the road either, according to your logic??

And, at the moment, who's to say it was the drivers fault. Cyclist can be at fault too.

Anyway, all beside the point, hope all recover and get better soon.
