Cheshire Fire and Rescue keep it local

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service are on the hunt for local contractors and suppliers who can provide specialist skills, to assist in the upkeep and running of its 24 fire stations, headquarters and associated buildings.

The Service is keen to boost local sustainability by stimulating the local economy and supply chain within its four unitary areas and in the process help with the reduction of its carbon footprint.

They are looking for a variety of suppliers from across the Cheshire, Halton and Warrington area who offer a range of services including general building, plumbing, electrical and garden maintenance plus a host of other trades including steeplejacks and pest control.

Dave Lewis, Head of Asset Management said; "This is a new initiative which comes as a result of the recession and because we want to help support the local businesses within the communities of our fire stations.

"We are an emergency service and our firefighters respond to incidents 24/7 so if something goes wrong at one of our stations then the problem usually needs fixing immediately.

"The companies applying could be one person working for themselves or a larger company, it's the locality and the quality of service they supply, along with and their availability which is paramount."

The successful suppliers will become approved by Cheshire Fire and Rescue and appear on a list that will be updated periodically. There will be an expectation for the supplier to be able to provide both planned and/or reactive maintenance at short notice and on an oncall basis. All work will be based throughout the county.
