Alderley girls step back in time

Alderley Edge School for Girls held their annual Activity Day on Friday which started with the girls dressing up according to an era which they had studied. Costumes represented the Medieval, Victorian, Ancient Greek and World World 2 eras, as well as the 1940's, 50's, 60's, 70's and most recently the 1980's.

After registration the girls were treated by the PFA to a show from a travelling theatre puppet company which proved to be a huge success. Following this, there were 15 workshops for the girls to attend on a rota basis, covering a variety of topics from child development to ceramics, architecture to textile design, flying to pastel painting and nursing to jewellery making.

Headmaster, Lawrence Groves said "The whole day went by in a flash, and before we knew it, it was time for every class to put something in the time capsule, which is not to be opened again until 2035, and rush to the canteen for the cake sale before viewing the displays which the children has prepared in the classrooms."

The school placed a prospectus, school teddy and news bulletins in the time capsule to be discovered in 25 years time, then each class added their own items which included, a collage of the school shield made from tissue paper, an acrostic AESG poem, a class photo of the girls in costume along with an Argos catalogue and a compilation CD.

Lawrence Groves added "This was a truly wonderful day providing the girls with a wealth of experiences and yet at the same time still maintaining the fun element. I cannot say just how grateful I am to the PFA for organising such a fantastic Activity Day but also the many talented parents who gave up their time and energy to help to run these stimulating and entertaining workshops."
