All change for Wilmslow Show competitions

All the old favourites will be there at this year's Wilmslow Show on Sunday July 11th, including: classic cars, the fun dog show, falconry, mini zoo, craft marquee, bandstand and children's attractions. In addition, new for 2010, there will be a chainsaw sculptor and a D-Day Dakota flyover.

The other change this year is that all the competitions have been completely rewritten and are now listed on the Wilmslow Show website, along with the rules and an entry form.

The competitions in the flower tent are organised by the Alderley Edge and Wilmslow Horticultural and Rose Society and cover everything from entering sweet peas to art, handicrafts to cookery and photography to flower arranging. There are also sections for schools and young people, covering cookery, natural history, handicrafts and painting. You don't have to be an expert to enter, in fact beginners are particularly welcome.

Show organiser Frank McCarthy said "The competitions hadn't changed since the 1950's, and neither had the prizes, or the rules which we discovered several sets of. We used to charge 20p to enter a competition but now, for the first time, you can enter the competitions free of charge.

"We are hoping to encourage a lot more people to enter and have a bit of fun. There is something for everyone so take a look at the competition pages of the website and have a go. We look forward to seeing you at the show."

The Wilmslow Show will take place at Wilmslow High School from 11.00 to 4.30pm on Sunday July 11th. Visit the Wilmslow Show website for further information and if you would like to book a trade stand at the show, email the show secretary Elizabeth Myers.
