If you're looking for ways to entertain your children this May half term holiday then you'll be pleased to know it promises to be more fun-packed than ever this year.

Cheshire East council is joining with local community partners to celebrate National Family Week from May 31st to June 6th, with a variety of family-friendly events and activities planned throughout the week.

National Family Week is the UK’s biggest annual celebration of family life, aiming to highlight the importance of quality time together and promote the benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle.

Held at various locations across Cheshire East, the action-packed and fun-filled family events include a picnic at Wilmslow library, pond dipping at Quarry Bank Mill and creative arts at Tatton. Some of the more unusual activities on offer include trips down the old copper mines of Alderley Edge, handspinning and weaving at Quarry Bank Mill and the opportunity to watch sheep shearing at Tatton Park.

The week also features several full day events including the Lions Annual Street Fair at Knutsford on Bank Holiday Monday and an open day at Oakenclough Children's Centre in Wilmslow on Thursday June 3rd. Some activities carry a small charge and others are free.

Councillor Hilda Gaddum, Cabinet member with responsibility for children and families, said: “The average family spends just 45 minutes together each day, according to a recent national poll.

“The idea behind National Family Week is to champion the benefits of a healthy, active and positive family life, and Cheshire East Council is proud to support this great initiative. We recognise that no two families are alike and the wide variety of activities on offer means there is something for all ages and abilities.

“All the activities are designed to enable families to enjoy quality time together while having fun and making this half term one to remember.”

Details of the local events can be found in our events calendar, whilst information on all events taking place across Cheshire East is available on the Family Information Service webpages or by calling 0800 408 2013.
