Alderley Edge School for Girls invited Lisa Kenny, Store Manager of Tesco Express on London Road to listen to their ideas for an environmentally friendly, sustainably developed Tesco store.

Three teams of Year 9 girls presented their ideas on how to reduce food wastage, minimise packaging, eliminate the use of plastic bags and also proposed a variety of ways of being environmentally friendly and reducing utility costs.

The girls also recommended that local producers should be used to lower the high transport costs and carbon footprint associated with transporting goods between the supplier and store.

Lisa Kenny was highly impressed with the girls suggestions and commented, "Feedback and thoughts as to how Tesco can improve services are always welcome. The girls presented some really innovative ideas about how we can move forward and I will be passing those details on to our Head Office. I am really pleased to have been invited in to the school to meet with the girls as we settle into the Alderley Edge community."

Mrs Caroline Wood, teacher of Geography at the school added, “The subject of Geography goes far beyond what we teach in the classroom, and we felt this was a perfect opportunity for our pupils to develop vital skills that they will need in later life. We would like to thank Lisa for coming in to listen to our girls and for supporting us with this project."
