Following a recent consultation, Cheshire East Council has confirmed the revised opening times for Alderley Edge Library.

Following a statutory notice period for staff and consultation with the relevant trade unions, the following opening times will be effective from 1st July.

Monday: closed
Tuesday: 09.30-13.30
Wednesday: 09.30-13.30
Thursday:14.30-19.00
Friday: 13.00-17.00
Saturday: 09.30-13.00

Councillor Craig Browne said "In addition to these times, I am looking to operate a volunteer-led session, which will enable the library to be open on either a Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon/evening. I will shortly be contacting all the residents who have already come forward and offered to volunteer; however, if anyone else would like to join the group of volunteers, please drop me an email."

In November the Council published it Pre Budget Consultation for 2018-21 which included closing the library in order to save around £50,000 a year.

However, they reconsidered their plans following residents' feedback and a campaign by local residents to save the village library.

The library will remain open for five half-days per week, allowing Cheshire East Council to reduce costs by not having to pay lunchtime cover for regular staff.
