Police operation targets drivers

Drivers are being targeted in an operation to raise awareness of road safety.

'Operation Fatal 4' is designed to reinforce the rules of the road – by tackling the four main issues causing death or injury.

Throughout April Cheshire Police will be targeting drink/drug driving, excessive speed, using technology whilst driving and not wearing a seatbelt.

Officers will be carrying out checks on roads across the county monitoring the speed of drivers and checking that motorists are adhering to the law by not using their mobile phone or sat nav whilst driving, not driving without a seat belt and not drinking or using drugs and driving.

Anyone suspected of being involved in those offences will be stopped and dealt with accordingly.

The operation, which involves officers from the local policing units as well as specialist road policing officers, also aims to educate drivers about the potential consequences of their actions on the roads.

Sergeant Anthony Gallagher said: "The rules of the road are there for a reason and we want to get the message across that we will not tolerate drivers who choose to ignore those rules. We want to make motorists more aware of how their driving impacts on other road users.

"We also want to educate motorists about the risks and dangers associated with these four key factors. Operations such as this help to hit home important safety messages with the ultimate aim of reducing the number of collisions on roads in Cheshire."

So we're not to use SatNav while driving? I'm OK on the other stuff, but I'm going to struggle with that one..

Meanwhile, all the local plod are sat in cars "targeting drivers" handing out fines, the local burglars act with impunity. I don't need a fine to "educate" me how to drive, I have a licence that proves it. How about they target some real crime, like politicians not paying tax (sorry dodging), or is that too political?

Last time I saw the speed camera transit van it was parked up in Astmoor Industrial Estate on a Saturday morning when there were no vehicles about ! Get real and park where locals know and report speed problems. Be pro-active and be seen by residents who always seem to be ignored.
