Man arrested in school grounds for shoplifting and violence

A man was apprehended in the grounds of Alderley Edge School for Girls on Monday, 29th February, and arrested.

Along with a second man, they were arrested on suspicion of shoplifting alcohol from Waitrose at approximately 2pm and violence.

Police officers attended the scene and following a search of the area the two men were located at the Texaco Garage on Wilmslow Road.

The first male was detained and arrested at the garage but the second male made off from the scene and entered the grounds of the girl's school opposite, via the front gates.

Staff from AESG went out to patrol the area to ensure there was no risk to the pupils.

The second male was found and apprehended in the grounds of the school shortly afterwards.

Headmistress Sue Goff said "The police were very quick and efficient in dealing with the issue but all pupils were kept safely inside until he was removed from the school grounds."

A 37-year-old man from Timperley and a 29-year-old man from Altrincham are currently being dealt with in police custody.
