Shoppers warned to be vigilant following several purse thefts

Police are urging shoppers to be vigilant after receiving several crime reports of purses being stolen from handbags in Wilmslow town centre last week.

It is unknown at this stage whether the thefts are happening inside shops or whilst people are walking around the town.

PC Simon Warr, of Wilmslow Beat Management Team, explained "The victims of these thefts all report that they have not noticed where the theft actually happened so cannot give an exact location however, all do say that they had been down Grove Street and all incidents occurred late morning/early afternoon."

Four incidents were recorded in Wilmslow town centre between Monday, 22nd February and Saturday, 27th February.

PC Warr added "This is by no means an epidemic in Wilmslow however we certainly advise all people in the town centre, and town centres in general, keep handbags fastened at all times and to regularly check that purses are where they should be."

Wilmslow police's beat management team will be increasing our foot patrol in the town centre.

If you see anything suspicious please phone the Police on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800555111.

Spate? Forgive me, but it is some while since I last exited the Grammar School gates- does four incidents constitute a "spate"?

An "emerging pattern of thefts"?

"...it is unknown at this stage whether the thefts are happening inside shops or actually in the open on the roads."

"I was proceeding along the High street in a Northerly direction when...." etc.

Good afternable, consternoon... hic...
