Jeans for Genes

Alderley Edge School for Girls were very happy to support this charity as it meant they were able to don their jeans for the day while also contributing to gene research by donating £1 each. At a moving and informative assembly on Monday the girls were made aware of the need for genetic research, to try and find cures for the many debilitating and crippling diseases which currently have no cure. It also inspired the girls to consider work as research scientists so that they might help prevent these conditions.

The girls are also planning many other charity events this term – Year 8 girls have made contact with the local RSPCA and are fund raising by baking cakes and running competitions. Head of Religious Studies and Charity Co-ordinator Andrew Mason said: "It is lovely to see how keen and committed the girls are – they themselves choose the charities they want to support and are really imaginative and dedicated in raising as much as they can. They are really keen to help others who are not as fortunate as they are and take their charity work very seriously indeed."
