Dropped kerbs on Congleton Road to pave way for less mobile

A series of dropped kerbs are going to be installed along Congleton Road to make it easier for wheelchair and mobility scooter users and those with pushchairs to travel into the village.

Funding for this scheme was approved at a meeting of the Local Highways Partnership (attended by the Ward Councillors for Alderley Edge, Wilmslow & Handforth) on 23rd June and should be implemented over the course of the summer.

The Local Highways Partnership has a small annual budget for minor projects, with priority determined by the Ward Councillors.

The scheme will focus on the junctions of Congleton Close, Beechfield Road, St Hilary's Park and Macclesfield Road with Congleton Road. It will precede resurfacing works, as well as the repainting of the double white lines in the centre of Congleton Road.

Cllr Craig Browne said "This project is being funded by Cheshire East Council, at a cost of £10,000. I hope that it will go some way towards helping make the village more accessible for those with wheelchairs, mobility scooters or pushchairs. It will hopefully be the first of a number of improvements we are planning to make over the coming months."

Craig added "My next surgery will be Friday 24th July, 10am at Aldeli if any resident wishes to speak to me about any community issues."
