Parish councillors get their hands dirty

Ahead of this weekend's Alderley Edge May Fair, some of the newly elected parish councillors have been getting their hands dirty to make the village centre look more attractive.

On Tuesday evening councillors focussed on clearing the weeds from the planters and removing dead foilage from the grids around the base of trees on London Road.

Then on Wednesday evening they filled the planters with bright fresh flowers ready for Saturday's event and during the day, as many of you will have noticed, Mitch Gilbert, Kriss Coombes and helpers put the bunting up down the high street.

May Fair Organiser, Councillor Christine Munro helped with the planting. She said "I am thrilled that the village will 'look the part' for this weekend."

Ruth Norbury, who is also a new parish councillor, explained "It is a speedy makeover gift from my husband Mike and me.

"We know it will cheer everyone up in the village - before we tackle the ongoing floral displays and the new planters that have been ordered by the last council."

Thanks Fenton for joining us - and Jackie too - the Chair of Alderley Edge Allotments & Gardens Society and a member of the AEAGS Show Committee. What fun it was, all of us making the village look better together. Long may it continue :-)
