George Osborne has successfully defended the Tatton seat which he first won in 2001 with 58.6% of the votes and an overall majority of 18,241 - up from a 14,487 majority in 2010.
The turnout was 45,298 with 69.97% of the electorate voting in what is historically a Tory stronghold. There were 185 rejected ballots.
The Tatton MP had been up against Stuart Hutton (UKIP), David Pinto-Duschinsky (Labour Party), Tina Rothery (Green Party) and Gareth Wilson (Liberal Democrats).
At the declaration at Macclesfield Leisure Centre this morning, George said "Can I also thank again the people of the Tatton constituency for putting their trust in me - I never forget that I go to Parliament with the primary responsibility, which is to represent the people of this constituency in the House of Commons and I will not forget that over the coming five years.
"I remember standing on this stage five years ago and I made a commitment to work with the British people to try and turn Britain around and we've made great progress. Tonight the British people have asked us to finish the job and that is what we'll now set about doing. To make sure we have a country that lives within its means; to make sure we have an economy that works for everyone in our United Kingdom, to bring that United Kingdom together - clearly one of the big tasks we now face; to make sure we have the right relationship with Europe; and also - a particular passion of mine - to build a Northern Powerhouse here in the North of England.
"We've had a historic result tonight, we've got historic challenges ahead of us, so now we're going to get back to work".
The solid Conservative seat was lost for one term between 1997 and 2001 when Martin Bell, an Independent candidate and former war correspondent, defeated Tory MP Neil Hamilton following allegations he had been associated with the cash for questions scandal, but otherwise it has remained a Tory stronghold.
