Alderley Edge School for Girls is celebrating this week after receiving an excellent report from the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI), a Government approved inspectorate responsible for the inspection of independent schools.

Eight inspectors visited the school over a four day period in February where they observed lessons, conducted formal interviews with pupils, examined samples of work and held discussions with senior members of staff and the chair of governors. They also observed a sample of extra-curricular activities that occurred during the inspection period and attended registration sessions and assemblies. Alderley Edge School for Girls is delighted with the outcome.

The school has achieved 'Excellent' judgements across the board, which is the highest rating and the Junior, Senior and Sixth Form divisions were all rated as 'Excellent' in all eight criteria for which judgements are awarded.

The school was judged on the quality of pupils' achievement and learning; contribution of curricular and enrichment provision; contribution of teaching; the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils; contribution of arrangements for pastoral care; the contribution of arrangements for welfare, health and safety; the quality of governance and the quality of leadership and management.

The Early Years department is assessed against four main categories: how well the early years provision meets the needs of the range of children who attend; the contribution of the early years provision to well-being; the leadership and management of the early years provision; the overall quality and standard of the early years provision. They achieved 'Outstanding', which is the highest rating, in all four categories.

Mrs Goff commented, "We are thrilled that the top judgements for each section of the school have been awarded as excellent and outstanding. We know that we have a fabulous school and it is gratifying to have this endorsed in every area by the inspectors, from pupil achievements in the classroom to curriculum, teaching, extra-curricular provision, and pastoral care to name but a few. In particular we were delighted with the very high parent response to the questionnaire which was overwhelmingly positive about every aspect of the educational provision we offer."

The ISI report made two recommendations for improvement, these were develop further the good practise of intellectual risk taking throughout the school and develop the opportunities for the oldest children in the Early Years Department to take their planned learning outside.
