AESG reports outstanding GCSE performances

Following an "outstanding" inspection report earlier in the year and a 100% pass rate for A Levels last week, Alderley Edge School for Girls (AESG) have today announced excellent GCSE results.

This year’s results show a further significant increase in the number of top grades achieved with over a quarter of the results at A* and nearly 60% being achieved at A* and A.

This year’s GCSE results continued the celebrations for the Carroll family as 16 year old Natasha successfully gained straight A*s in 11.5 subjects at GCSE following last week’s success by older sister Olivia, who gained four A grades at Advanced Level.

Natasha was closely followed in the race for top achiever at GCSE by Rachel Harrington who gained 11 A* and another seven students who achieved at least seven A*s; Frankie Isherwood, Jessica Norton, Sophie Thomas, Jenny Metcalfe, Katie Langdon, Charlotte Hook and Georgia Gough.

Identical twins, Alice and Lucinda Woodhead, who have quite independently chosen identical A Level subjects, also gained identical GCSE results, both achieving 6.5 A/A* and 4 B grades.

Mrs Mills, Headmistress, commented, “I am immensely proud of the girls who have worked so hard to ensure that my final year has been so memorable. An “outstanding” inspection followed by superb A Level and GCSE results, what better leaving gift can a Head have than this!”

More than half a million teenagers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland have been receiving their results today and yet again GCSE grades have reached a record level, with more than one in five exams (21.6%) being awarded an A* or A. Grades have risen almost continually for the past 21 years and this year 67.1% were between an A* and a C.
