Further to the recent inspection, which followed the framework laid down by the Independent Schools Inspectorate, the inspectors concluded that Alderley Edge School for Girls(AESG) meets it’s high aims and aspirations. According to the Reporting Inspector “We are saying extraordinary things about this school, the quality of this report is such that it places AESG amongst the elite that represents the best schools in the country”.

During the inspection aspects of school life were assessed on a four point scale: unsatisfactory, satisfactory, good and outstanding. The quality of the education experience provided at AESG was considered outstanding with the school providing an excellent range of educational opportunities suited to the interests, aptitudes and needs of all it’s pupils. The inspectors considered the school to be particularly successful in it’s aim to create a happy, secure and caring environment in which each pupil develops a sense of personal worth and a clear understanding of what is right and wrong alongside a consideration for others.

The quality of pastoral care was considered outstanding with the arrangements for the welfare, health and safety of pupils being excellent. The inspectors felt that the school promotes outstanding discipline and behaviour, with the quality of relationships between staff and girls also being outstanding, which promotes a positive and nurturing environment.

The quality of leadership and management by the headmistress and others with delegated responsibilities was also deemed outstanding which the report described as the most important factor in the school’s achievement of it’s aims, and especially the first aim: to educate pupils in the fullest sense.

Whilst the quality of links with parents were also considered outstanding the school’s links with the wider community were considered good and identified as an area for improvement. Having recently presented our website to members of staff at AESG as an opportunity for them to strengthen links with the community, we were delighted when they wrote to us confirming they thought it was “an excellent idea” which they “will certainly be taking advantage of”.

It is all change at AESG this summer though with both the headmistress Mrs K Mills and the Head of the Junior School Mrs C Hulme-McKibbin leaving. Having set such high standards they will certainly be leaving the school in good shape for their replacements Mrs Susan Goff and Mr Lawrence Groves who will take over in September. Let’s hope they can maintain these “outstanding” standards.
