Alderley girls celebrate A-level success

Alderley Edge School for Girls is celebrating another year of successful A level results with the students achieving impressive grades across a range of subjects.

A* and A grades were up significantly, with well over a quarter of results at these grades. As usual, the girls are going on to study a huge variety of courses at leading universities, including Physics, Pharmacy, Engineering, Modern Foreign Languages, Fashion, Marketing, Psychology and Nursing.

Kumiko Kawato achieved 2 A* and 2 A grades and will read Physics at Imperial College, London. This is a particularly impressive achievement as she only arrived in the UK from Japan in Year 10 with a limited knowledge of the English Language.

Gemma Davison, Emily Bancroft and Sarah Ekin all gained 2 A* grades and 1 A. Gemma will read Physics at the University of York, Emily will read Hispanic Studies at the University of Bristol and Sarah will study Food Science at the University of Leeds.

Ellen Smith gained 1 A* and 2 A grades and will read English Literature at the University of Edinburgh whilst Kathryn Webb gained 3 A grades and will go to the University of Bristol to study Spanish and Portuguese.

At AS level, 7 Year 11 pupils took English Language a year early and gained 5 A and 2 B grades, which is an excellent achievement as they were studying for these examinations on top of their GCSE qualifications.

This was also the first year of study for the EPQ and Ms Hodson, Director of Studies commented, "We are delighted with the achievements of our girls who undertook this demanding qualification. All the girls achieved high grades and we are particularly proud of Molly Jones who gained an A* for her outstanding research on treatments for epilepsy."

Mrs Susan Goff, Headmistress at the school enthused, "Yet again our girls have proved that hard work, determination and commitment pay off. The girls have done incredibly well academically combining this with a broad enrichment programme including Community Service, Sport, Music and Drama. They should be justifiably proud of their success and I have every confidence that they will take full advantage of the opportunities that are now open to them for the future.

"I am particularly pleased to see that so many of our girls are continuing to study Physics, Engineering and Modern Foreign Languages despite the national decline in these key areas. As always, I am indebted to the dedicated AESG results team who were all present in school before 7.00am ready to congratulate and support the girls and their parents."
