Church packed for Last Night of the Proms

CHURCHUSE

There was a tremendous atmosphere at Alderley Edge Methodist Church on Sunday, 13th July, when the Marsden Silver Prize Band performed to a packed church.

Conducted by Glyn Williams, they band gave a concert of music with an emphasis on the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War.

The church was decorated to embrace a patriotic feel, with displays from the Alderley History Society as well as one relating to the church on view, and the programme contained sections where the audience joined in as the Band played wartime songs. The grand finale was a Last Night of the Proms rendition of all the usual songs accompanied by around 120 people waving their Union Jack flags.

Judy Povey, church secretary, said "It was a wonderful afternoon all round, helping us to support the Royal British Legion to the tune of £150, and adding to our Spire Appeal by an amount of virtually £1,000."
