Waitrose submits plans for expansion

The Co-operative Store in Alderley Edge closed on Saturday, 26th April, following its acquisition by Waitrose who intend to use the unit to extend its existing convenience store at The Parade.

Waitrose aim to start work on the refurbishment shortly and have submitted a planning application (reference 14/1906M) to convert Little Waitrose and the Co-op into one larger Waitrose food store.

The proposal involves the replacement of five shop-front windows, the relocation of existing trolley bays and cycle racks and the reduction of the existing canopy.

Alterations to the shop-front, to allow the development to read as a coherent store, include the application of render as an external finish and high level glazing to the East, South and West elevations.

Plans also include two external seating areas at the front of store and a new emergency exit door at the rear.

The plans can be viewed on the Cheshire East Council website by searching for planning reference 14/1906M. The last date for submitting comments is 13th May and a decision is expected by 6th June.

Much more sensible to have the one store.

My only grumble is the parking fee. I don't mind paying to park but the times I have needed Waitrose I have only needed a few things, as there is rarely much of a queue to pay I have grabbed what I have needed and paid in less than 10/ 15 minutes. So having to buy a ticket for an hour is a little annoying. Seems every time I park the warden is doing his rounds and of course no one else seems to bother buying a ticket so can't even pass the ticket to someone else. They all seem to just walk into Waitrose without paying to park.
