AnnaMari & RussellLomas

The next lunchtime concert at Alderley Edge Methodist Church takes place on Wednesday 19th February and features award winning flutist Anna Mari, accompanied by pianist Russell Lomas.

Anna Mari began flute lessons when she was eight, and several years later graduated from the Nakas Conservatoire, Athens, with the highest distinction possible and with their First Prize Award. During her studies in Athens, she won numerous national flute competitions, including the International Flute Meeting competition in 2005, 2006, 2007, and in the UK, won the Mozart G Major Concerto-Cadenza prize from the British Flute Society International Flute Convention in Manchester in 2007.

She also performed as a soloist with the National Youth Orchestra of Athens, before joining the RNCM to study with Richard Davis and Linda Verrier. Whilst at the RNCM she gave many solo and chamber music performances, performed in masterclasses of James Galway, William Bennett and Peter Lloyd amongst others, and achieved a B.Mus degree in 2010, with a distinction for her final recital.

In December 2010, Anna was appointed principal flautist of the National Chamber Opera of Greece, but left a year later to complete her studies at the RNCM where she has recently obtained her Masters Degree with distinction for her final recital. She was also awarded the 'Musicales Prize' - a prize given by a Music Society in collaboration with the RNCM for the most enjoyable performance of the year by RNCM students in external recitals.

Anna will be joined by Russell Lomas, who has broadcast for the BBC, Classic FM and a number of European and local radio stations. Until his retirement in 2003, he was a member of the Music Department of Chetham's School of Music in Manchester for over thirty years, and Head of Accompaniment for the final twelve, and he was the only accompanist to appear on at least one televised programme in every series of the BBC TV Young Musician of the Year competition between 1978 (the year of the first competition) and 2004.

The concert commences at 1pm and will last approximately 45 minutes. Admission is by programme at the door, priced £4.00, and light lunches, charged separately, are available from 12 noon.
