Council clamps down on illegal advertising

Cheshire East Council has removed two illegal advertising boards from the village this week.

Following a complaint from a local resident, community wardens visited the village on Thursday, 28th November, and removed the two boards which had been chained to lamp posts.

An advertising board for a conservatory company appeared a couple of weeks ago chained to a lamp post off Wilmslow Road, close to the entry to The Edge hockey pitch and Ryleys playing field.

This was removed, along with one for an oven cleaning business which had been placed close to The Parade car park without permission some time ago.

Councillor David Topping, Cabinet member in charge of the environment, said: "Cheshire East Council does not tolerate this type of advertising, which can clutter up our beautiful town centre streets.

"The Council had spoken to the person responsible for the conservatory company advertisement, who refused to remove the sign. We also wrote to the gentleman to explain there is a policy in place which does not permit this type of advertising.

"However, the sign was still not removed. This left us with no option but to remove the sign ourselves, which we did so on Thursday. He was also given a £75 fixed penalty notice which was issued under the Cleaner Neighbourhoods Act, Defacing a surface by graffiti or fly posting. (Section 43 - Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003).

"We had also received complaints about a sign advertising an oven-cleaning business by The Parade car park, which we have now also removed.

"Our Clear Way Forward policy does not permit advertising of this sort, however, we do make exceptions for charitable causes."

There is often an oven cleaning company advertising near Hoopers (took the number myself once....did not know it was illegal )

Would not say its ever bothered me as such but that's because I presumed it was ok to do it. Just never really thought much about it.

It's a shame Cheshire East Council can't get tough on those that set up camp on double yellow lines for two weeks at a time and remove them .(travellers).
Back bone and lack of springs to mind.
