Members of Dean Row Allotment Society, Wilmslow are looking to link up with other local allotment groups to help promote and preserve allotments for future generations.
Working with the National Society of Allotment and Leisure Gardeners (NSALG) they are hoping to form a Federation of Allotment Sites for Cheshire East, following the success of the federation in Cheshire West which was set up earlier this year and enables their Council to deal with one body rather than all the different sites.
Ian Lomax, Secretary of the Dean Row Allotment Society, explained "Our aim is to forge closer links between Councils, Parish and Town Councils along with private sites. Working to promote and preserve allotments for future generations."
The plan is to work together to promote and publicise allotments; retain existing sites; encourage and support self-managed allotments as well as provide support for sites where self-management is not an option.
It is also hoped that a Federation of Allotment Sites can give help and support to its members with regard to good practise and information; help gain funding for projects and foster good relations and cooperation between allotment sites and relevant authorities.
Any groups, associations, societies or plot holders interested in learning more about the plans should contact Andrea Hallissey on 01244 372928 or email [email protected].
If they receive enough interest the plan is to arrange a road show and invite as many allotment site reps and plot holders as possible.
