The annual pop-up Christmas card shop will be back at Wilmslow library from tomorrow, offering shoppers the chance to buy charity cards knowing that all the money they spend actually goes to their favourite charities.

Sheila Hallas MBE, founder and honorary organiser said "Wilmslow card buyers know that this is the case. In fact we may be the only organization in the country offering this. We think we are unique in this."

Sheila started this enterprise back in 1971, in a tiny shop on Clifton Street, Alderley Edge with no money for equipment or publicity and now it is vibrant and thriving - having grown and developed each year.

Fifty-five local and national charities are represented and since its start up, the Combined Charities Christmas Shops Association has raised over £4 million for the participating charities.

Open until the 7th of December, the shop is a well-established feature of Wilmslow's Christmas season and enables shoppers to support a variety of national and local charities knowing that the charities receives every penny spent on the cards.

Also available in the shop is a wide range of quality gifts, toys, stocking fillers and wrapping paper. The margins made from selling these go towards covering the costs of running the operation. These costs include rent of premises, insurances and publicity. Everyone involved in the organisation works on a voluntary basis with no one being paid for their time and expertise.

Sheila added "Without the army of volunteers backing us up, we would not be able to do what we are doing, so well done the community-spirited people of Wilmslow."

The Christmas card shop will be open from Saturday 26th October until Saturday 7th December. The opening hours will be from 9 am to 5 pm Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays and 9 am to 7 pm on Mondays and Thursdays.
