Harvest Service inspires school to feed local families in need

A local charity, Hampers of Hope, recently joined Alderley Edge Community Primary in their annual Harvest Service celebration which was held at St St Philips and St James Church.

The service involved the whole school singing a combination of traditional harvest songs as well as more modern ones along with readings and poetry. The service was very well attended by many families and friends of the school who thoroughly enjoyed the service.

The Hampers of Hope charity aims to relieve poverty and one of the ways it does this is through its food bank that serves North East Cheshire, including Wilmslow, Lacey Green, Handforth and Alderley Edge.

Headteacher at Alderley Edge Primary, Mr Chris Perry, said he was delighted with the response from the children and their families. The donations of food filled the boots and back seats of two of the charity workers cars when they left.

Mr Perry said, "We often talk to our children about how their actions can make a difference and it is great to know that the direct action of donating food to this important charity will help support local families in the area." He went on to say, "Our Harvest Service this year was fantastic – the children sang beautifully and I was extremely proud of them all."
