How long have you lived in Alderley Edge? 23 years this November.

Where did you move from and why?

Nick and I had been living and working in Hong Kong; his job relocated to the North West and we moved into the village having found the perfect family home.

What do you most like about living and working in Alderley Edge?

A village with everything you could need. A friendly place, with community spirit, churches, schools, shops, trains, countryside, great walks, 12 miles to Manchester and even an international airport nearby.

What changes/improvements would you like to see in Alderley Edge?

More public transport links to neighbouring towns on buses and trains.

What have been the biggest changes to Alderley Edge since you have lived here?

I think the bypass has been a huge improvement to the village. In the terms of change, the many houses that have been built on small plots of land have had quite an impact. The high street has changed out of all recognition with the advent of the many restaurants, coffee shops and supermarkets. When I was first here there was only one coffee shop in the village and that was in basement of Blue Lagoon – the ladies clothing shop which is now Grill on the Edge.

What do you miss about the village that has since gone?

No 15 Wine Bar! The lollypop lady outside the Primary School and more recently Alderley Motors.

If there is one thing about Alderley Edge you could eliminate what would it be?

Cigarette ends left outside the office blocks and dogs fouling the pavement. Oops that's two!

Describe Alderley Edge in three words? Fun, community and spirit

What is your favourite way to spend a day out and about in Alderley Edge or the surrounding area?

We are so lucky to have access to many walks into the countryside – one of my favourites is walking Toby up on the Edge and taking in the splendid views from Manchester to Jodrell Bank.

What is the most underrated thing about Alderley Edge? Feeling safe in the village at night.

What are the main myths about Alderley Edge? Everyone is a footballer and drinks champagne!

Are you a member of any clubs or associations based in the village?

When I first arrived in the village with small children, the local park was very basic with no designated area for toddlers. A group of us formed The Alderley Enclosed Park Action Group. Within 6 months, we had a lovely area with equipment, enclosed, to keep dogs out and it always gives me a lot of pleasure to see young families enjoying it today.

As a result of this project, I was elected onto the Parish Council (AEPC) for 9 years and was Chairman during the Millennium celebrations - a huge village party in the park. I also represented AEPC on the committee of Manchester Museum Landscape Trust, which commissioned a multi-faceted social study of all aspects of Alderley Edge, including the local people, villas, fauna and topography.

From this, a core group founded the Alderley History Group, which meets in the Methodist school rooms six times a year – something I really love. There are always stories and pictures coming to light which need to be shared with the local community.

I also go to St Philip & St James Church and at present we are raising money for the Spire Appeal. It is the Parish Church and the iconic building that everyone recognises in Alderley.

If you didn't live in Alderley Edge where would you want to move to? Hong Kong. I loved my time there; a fabulous and vibrant place to live.
