Gallery and audio showroom close

After almost two years in the village, Bebb and Sekers Fine Art has decided to close its door this week.

The gallery, which opened in September 2011 in the premises previously occupied by the The Medicine Shop, was run by Lucy Sekers in partnership with Bebb Fine Art of Ludlow.

Following the closure of the gallery, Lucy has set up a new business Sekers Fine Art, working at both a local and national level through art fairs and events.

Lucy Sekers said "I think one area the recession has hit hardest is marketing, and I was finding it increasingly difficult to market the gallery as far afield as I wanted - hence my decision to close and do the travelling myself. It makes sense to me to go where the art buyers go, it also gives me an opportunity to take my emerging artists to London, which was difficult with the financial and time restraints of running a physical gallery.

"Alderley is a great village, with many supportive residents and visitors. I believe that business turnover keeps a community fresh and interesting; while well-established businesses encourage returning customers, there is also a need to refresh and stimulate old and new visitors."

Sekers Fine Art will remain locally based and all the existing services will still be available, such as framing, restoration, personal home visits, consultancy and brokerage, simply contact Lucy through the website.

The next door showroom, which specialised in the design and manufacture of high-end audio, video and home theatre systems, has also closed down.

Home entertainment manufacturer Meridian opened on London Road last year. They have boutiques located in several major cities around the world, including Mexico City, Singapore, Kuwait City, Bangkok and Santiago, but the Alderley Edge boutique was only the second to open in the UK.

A shame that two more units have fallen vacant. It does show that the difficult trading times we live in have effects at all levels and for all types of retailing.
Good luck to Lucy and thanks for your time in the village.
