The Golden Key to Alderley

Visitors to this year's Alderley Edge May Fair will have the opportunity to win the 'Freedom of Alderley' for one weekend.

In order to secure the future of this fantastic community event, and enable it to remain free to attend, organisers have put together programmes for this year's event which are on sale for £1 each.

The programme is packed with information about the Fair, including a welcome from Christine Munro, who set up the Alderley Edge May Fair three years ago, the schedule of arena events for the day, a map of the park showing where all the main attractions will be located and information about the local charities which they are supporting; WRVS lunches for the elderly which take place at the Methodist Church and the St Philips & St James' Spire Appeal.

Details about other events, such as the May Fair Quiz and the Alderley Edge Village Fete, which will take place on June 30th, are also included.

Additionally, the programme contains information about the Golden Key to Alderley, which Kath Foster has arranged with a number of Alderley Edge businesses.

Businesses involved have put forward a selection of prizes which will enable the winner to have the 'Freedom of Alderley' for one weekend. The prizes include an overnight stay, three meals, champagne, a haircut, a beauty treatment, teeth whitening and children's treats. The winner can then follow up their weekend of indulgence with a three day detox.

Kath explained "We decided that rather than try and source one large star prize it would be great for all the local businesses to team up to showcase the fantastic range of businesses we have in Alderley Edge and give a lucky winner a weekend to remember!"

There are 1500 numbered programmes which are being sold at £1 each, all the money raised will go into the fund for next year's May Fair. The organisers will draw 20 numbers at random before the Fair and pass them onto myself so we can announce the winners on alderleyedge.com about 4.30pm on the day of the May Fair.

Each of the 20 winners will be able to go along to Mr Simms Old Sweet Shoppe to claim a free bar of chocolate, inside one of which will be a Golden Key to Alderley. The deadline for winners to claim their bar of chocolate is 5pm on Wednesday 22nd May. (In the event that no one finds the Golden Key, because not all 20 winners come forward then the organisers will choose one of the numbers that has claimed their bar, at random, to be the winner of the Golden Key).

Organiser Christine Munro said "Signage, banners and bunting will be going up shortly and we have a very full park with loads of entertainments, so we hope everyone has a really good time at our May Fair on Saturday 18th May."

In addition to the May Fair programmes, raffle tickets are also available to purchase for £1 each from Fosters fish and chip shop, Mr Simms and the Co-op.

The programmes will be sold at the next Alderley Edge Farmer's Market and on London Road on the day of the Fair, to people who are watching the procession.

If any businesses would like to get involved in the 'Golden Key to Alderley' then it is not too late, they can email Kath Foster or contact her on 07788 565018.
