Alderley Edge Parish Council is still waiting for copies of the leases for the allotments, which they are taking over responsibility for from Cheshire East Council (CEC)

In June 2012 CEC agreed to transfer the three allotment sites in the village to Alderley Edge Parish Council by way of a long lease with restrictive covenants preserving their use for allotments.

However, the leases have yet to be sent to the Parish Council for signing.

Cllr Mike Williamson said "Frank Keegan and myself had a meeting with our solicitors and Cheshire East's solicitors in December to go over the leases and to bang out any issues."

He added "We were expecting to have the leases sent to the Parish Council before Christmas but that hasn't happened.

"I've been back to our solicitors and talked to Cheshire East's solicitors and we were supposed to have them last week but we still haven't. We will address the issue of where they are and as soon as we've got them sign them. They are pending but they haven't arrived yet."

Once the leases have been signed Cllr Williamson said they will meet with the management committee of the Allotment Society to discuss how they are going to move their relationship forward.

Cllr Williamson continued "Cheshire East decided to give us the allotments in September 2011 at a Cabinet meeting. We got the final lease back in September 2012 and we told them that was unacceptable and they have been working on it ever since."

He added "It's an incredible amount of work for something that should have been so simple."

Alderley Edge Parish Council has previously announced plans to relocate the Heyes Lane allotments to land off Lydiat Lane which is owned by Alderley Edge School for Girls - where they could wipe out the waiting list by creating 60 allotment plots.

This will enable them to use the Heyes Lane site to create a new entrance to the Festival Hall and provide additional parking for both the new medical centre and revamped hall. However, this move relies on Alderley Edge School for girls being able to use another piece to build a new sports facility on.

The land which has been identified is former farm land adjacent to the bypass and near the Harden Park roundabout, which CEC purchased when the bypass was being planned and are currently looking into the disposal of.
