Sweet treats for the troops

An Alderley Edge shop is organising a campaign to provide sweet treats for soldiers stationed in Afghanistan this Valentines.

Judy O'Brien, owner of Mr Simms Old Sweet Shoppe will be sending boxes filled with sweets to the British forces to help bring a smile to their faces and boost morale.

Local residents and businesses can help by donating show boxes and sweets. For every two 100g bags of sweets bought Mr Simms will donate a third 100g bag and they will be adding 3kg of pick n mix and a 3kg jar of sweets to the donations.

Alternatively people can choose to donate something smaller or businesses and organisations can come together to send their own box.

To accompany the donations, cards are available at the shop so people can include a message, poem or draw a picture to go in the boxes.

Operation Shoebox, who regularly send parcels out to Afghanistan are supporting the campaign and arranging for the boxes to be transported to the troops for Valentine's Day.

Judy O'Brien said "I thought it would be nice to contribute something to the servicemen and women out there.

"We can only imagine how excited it will be for them to open parcels filled with delicious old favourites such as, rhubarb and custard, jelly babies, wine gums, bon bons and liquorice torpedoes!"

The parcels need to leave the UK before February 4th so if you would like to support the campaign visit the shop at 14 London Road or call 01625 582117.

Nice thought but it's not cheap to buy sweets from that store. Don't take my children in anymore as a very expensive treat.

Hello Sarah
I'm sorry to hear you think we are expensive. I think you will find that pic n mix for instance is more than twice the price of Mr Simms at the cinema and other much larger outlets.
