Plans for new office block in village centre

photo-47

Plans have been submitted to demolish an existing building behind London Road and replace it with a new office block.

Planning permission is being sought to demolish the building at the rear of No's 14-18 London Road, which is currently not in use, and erect a two and a half storey office block.

Plans also include making external alterations to No 6 West Street, a semi-detached property which has been converted to a dental practice, and building a two storey rear extension to accommodate a kitchen on the ground floor and a bedroom above.

Plans for a three storey office block were refused in July 2011 (reference 11/1310M) on the grounds that it would be visually dominant when viewed from No 6 West Street and overbearing. An appeal against this decision was dismissed.

Since then the applicant has acquired No 6 West Street therefore this recent application includes both sites.

This planning application can be viewed on the Cheshire East Council website by searching for reference 12/4201M. The deadline for submitting comments is 11th December and a decision is expected to be made by 2nd January 2013.

Do we really need an office block in the village, maybe they could put a Sainsbury's on the ground floor. I think there is enough empty office space in the area without adding to it.
Madness!!

It's a derelict building .....how can this not be a better solution to what's there already?

Steve, you read my mind. I was about to ask, 'But is it better as a derelict building?'. Derelicts (and charity shops) take not simply the tone of a place down, but its economic value as well, have a look at the studies conducted by the FT.

I understand havinf utilise office space is good for the village but more office space = more workers = more cars parked on the roads.

We seriously need a parking solution that is affordable for workers, safe for other road users, not an eyesore and kind to the environment.

I agree with other comments - better to have a maintained building than a derelict one.

The whole of this area is suffering from overload. The region is so congested and I really do not know how we can ease the situation.

Those who are serious about our environment please take note! Any suggestions?

A three storey office block sounds a nightmare in what looks like a confined space . Any mileage in said property been renovated to spec and offered as working space for local small firms food or craft producers? just a thought.
