Alderley have the edge in local derbies

It was another successful week for Alderley Edge Hockey Club with games against local rivals Wilmslow and Macclesfield.

The star performance came from the Men's 5th team who travelled to Wilmslow to play their 4th string and came away with a resounding 6-0 victory. Alderley dominated for most of the game and the goals came from Chris Sinton, Bob Lawton, Xander Cowap and a hat-trick from Roland Alston.

The Men's 3s also went to Wilmslow and beat the 2nds 3-0 with Finn Allenby grabbing two and Oli Kennon the other. Tom Smith was man of the match. Alderley were happy with the result but disappointed they did not make more of their penalty corners opportunities after creating so many.

The 6th team played Macclesfield 4s and claimed all three points with a convincing 5-0 win, Hunt with two, Farrer, Jackson and Will Kennon the scorers.

The second team were unfortunate to only gain a point from a 2-2 draw with Tameside, spending most of the second half with only 10 men. The goals came from a Chris Hardy penalty corner and Oli Wildig with a smartly struck finish from good build up play.

The first team suffered defeat going down 3-0 to Timperley, in a game that never really got going. Alderley were unable to create much in attack although Andy Williams (pictured) was Alderley's most effective player in the midfield.

With neither 'keeper hardly having a touch it was Timperley that kept their concentration as poor marking gifted them two opportunities, one in each half, that they took and a late penalty corner perhaps made the score line a little flattering, but Alderley cannot complain about the result and need to bounce back next week away to Formby.
