Slow progress on allotment transfer

In June Cheshire East Council (CEC) agreed to transfer the three allotment sites in the village to Alderley Edge Parish Council (AEPC) by way of a long lease with restrictive covenants preserving their use for allotments.

As previously reported, AEPC are planning to relocate the Heyes Lane allotments to land off Netherfields where they could wipe out the waiting list by creating 60 plots. This will enable them to use the Heyes Lane site to create a new entrance to the Festival Hall and provide additional parking for both the new medical centre and revamped hall.

At last night's Parish Council meeting Chairman Cllr Mike Williamson provided an update, telling fellow councillors that not a lot has happened since their last meeting.

He said "We have contacted CEC to ask for copies of the leases and agreements outstanding with the Allotments Society, the solicitor now has them and will be forwarding them to us."

Cllr Williamson added "We are in discussion with CEC regarding the wording of the leases, once we are in agreement those leases will be brought to the Parish Council and we will sign them."

Back in June, when the transfer was agreed, Cllr Frank Keegan said "The Parish Council will now consult with the residents of Alderley Edge on the way forward for facilities, recognising that the future of certain facilities will be easier with public support. Hopefully the Parish Council can issue a consultation document after the summer break, when the electorate are returned from their holidays."

There was no mention of a public consultation at this week's meeting but I will keep readers informed as more information about the transfer process and future plans becomes available.
