Scarborough Flyer steams through Alderley

31 Aug 2012_0019 copy2

One of our reader's kindly sent through this great photo of the 'Scarborough Flyer' passing through Alderley Edge station last week.

This special train runs from Crewe to York and Scarborough during the summer and is hauled in both directions by a steam locomotive.

The photo was taken by Pete Taylor on Friday, 31st August, and the steam locomotive used on the day trip was the 'Duchess of Sutherland'.

Whilst the 'Scarborough Flyer' doesn't stop in Alderley Edge it does stop and pick passengers up at Wilmslow and Stockport stations.

The Scarborough Flyer will be running until September 14th, click here for further information and tickets.

I agree - a great picture. It certainly is a wonderful sight to behold. Not only does it look amazing, but the sound of it passing through the village and surrounding countryside is like none other. I had the pleasure of watching and hearing it pass as I walked the dog one morning earlier in the summer. It lifted my spirits and put a spring in my step!

maybe if this is going to be going through in summers to come, a bit of sprucing up of the station and seeing if it could stop could be something to look into?

Yes, a fantastic photograph. I watch the train out of my bedroom window every Friday morning and, sometimes, I am lucky enough to see it travelling back to Crewe in the evening. I remember the steam trains on the line when I was a young girl. For anyone interested, when the line was electrified, a new bridge had to be built on Davey Lane but you can still see the side of the old bridge if you look carefully on the side of the track. Yes, it puts a smile on my face when I see the train steaming past. Usually, other neighbours were looking out of the window at the same time as me but, this year, the train has come a little earlier. Thank you for the sight of a super photograph.

Travelled on her last week from Wilmslow to. Scarborough - great way to travel. Memories for us oldies who remember steam trains and a great marvel for the younger end. I took my niece and 10 year great nephew and his friend. They couldn't have been more enthusiastic about the whole experience if they had tried. Can't wait until next year.
