A local charity has been shortlisted for an award from the Lloyds Bank Community Fund.
The Time Out Group is down to final four charities in the Manchester area to win £5000, the charity which receives the most votes will win the money.
Time Out Group is a supported social and leisure evening group which provides opportunities to adults with learning disabilities living in the Alderley Edge, Wilmslow and Handforth area, enabling them to enjoy a healthy and active social lifestyle.
This funding will allow the Time Out Group to give more young people with learning disabilities in the community the opportunity to become group members. It would also enable them to recruit more local young volunteers and train them to give support.
Sue Mills, Time Out Group Secretary, said "The award will mean that more young people with learning disabilities will be able to socialise within their community, enabling them to overcome isolation, improve their mental and physical health and make them more likely to be able to find employment or training.
"The young volunteers will be given the opportunity to undergo training that not only will help them to understand the issues that young people with learning disabilities face but provide them with skills that assist them in pursuing their wider career goals."
Sue added "We really need this funding in order to continue to manage to provide a continued level of support to a very vulnerable group of people living within this community. We get no statutory funding support, and rely on trained volunteers to help Time Out Group members take part in activities many of us take for granted, such as a trip out in the evening, going to the gym, away on holiday without having to go with parents. Most of our group members are unable to vote themselves, so we needs some local help."

Voting runs until midnight on September 9th and the winning organisations will be notified by 31st October.
