Alderley Edge Parish Council are requesting that double yellow lines be placed on Congleton Road to stop people parking outside the De Trafford Arms.
The issue of people parking on this stretch of road was first raised on alderleyedge.com in September, and since then it has been referred to by our members on several occasions.
Many of whom have commented that it is an accident waiting to happen and particularly dangerous when turning out of Chorley Hall Lane.
Back in January, Kelvin Briggs commented "It would make common sense for the Congleton Road to be double yellow lines outside the De Trafford so visibility and road safety is improved. It can only be a matter of time before there is an accident."
Christine Munro commented "It is impossible to see the traffic coming down Congleton Road when so many cars are parked near the Trafford Arms. It is amazing that an accident hasn't happened."
During the recent closure of the Alderley Edge bypass, to enable National Grid to refurbish two sections of overhead line, yellow cones were placed on both sides of Congleton Road preventing cars from parking there.
At the Alderley Edge Parish Council meeting on Monday, 9th July, Cllr Frank Keegan described this as a "big success on that corner" and confirmed "we have asked them to put the cones back because it is a real problem trying to come out of Chorley Hall Lane".
He added "We are going to be asking them (Cheshire East Council's Highways Department) to put double yellow lines up to the entrance of the De Trafford car park. It would be difficult to justify putting them further up."
Cllr Sue Joseph raised her concerns that placing yellow lines only on one side of the road (the side of the De Trafford Arms) would move the problem to the other side of the road and said "both sides of the road makes sense".
The Local Area Partnership are holding a meeting about highways issues on August 23rd, Cllr Keegan will be attending and raising this issue.

Here's what readers have had to say so far. Why not add your thoughts below.
I suggest that there is actually a benefit from cars parked here in that traffic coming down the hill into Alderley often at well over the already inappropriately generous 30mph limit is slowed up.
However I do think the double yellow lines should extend a short way around the corner into Congleton Road to keep the junction clear for larger vehicles to negotiate it safely.
AND the double yellow lines in Chorley Hall Lane need to be observed! Take note all you parents "just popping in" to Fosters, often at peak early evening periods and causing hold ups and irritation to drivers. I suggest you park up the hill on Congleton Road where you aren't in my way...
