The WRVS Luncheon Club celebrated the Queen's Diamond Jubilee with a buffet lunch on Tuesday, 12th June, at Alderley Edge Methodist Church.
All the regular diners were invited, along with current and retired volunteers.
The event started with long service badges and medals being presented by Helen Hailstone, WRVS Service Delivery Manager for Manchester, Cheshire and the Wirral.
This was followed by a singalong, organised by Carolyn Poole who chose songs that represented key stages in the Queen's life.
More than ninety guests then enjoyed a buffet lunch prepared by WRVS volunteers under the direction of luncheon Club Manager Veronica Langton.
All the planning, organization and preparations had been shared by around 30 WRVS volunteers who also decorated the hall, transported guests, helped those less able to move around and cleared up afterwards. Some volunteers even 'volunteered' their husbands to help out.
The special lunch concluded with the National Anthem and Veronica Langton thanking the enthusiastic volunteers for their help.
The Luncheon Club meets every Tuesday and Thursday during school terms so that retired people can socialize and enjoy a freshly cooked meal together. It is of particular benefit to those who live alone and consequently eat alone much of the time.
Anyone wishing to become a member of the Luncheon Club should phone Veronica on 01625 583720 or Anne on 01625 582514. New volunteers are also very welcome.
